The Freshman Experience - Part One

My college experience has just started and I don’t think that I could be more excited! I moved in on August 9th and then went on a three-day backpacking trip with the other Wilson Scholars in Pisgah National Forest. The backpacking trip really helped ease my anxiety and stress of the major change that was happening in my life. After we returned from our backpacking trip all of the Wilson scholars attended the Chancellor’s dinner which was a huge honor. It felt good to be busy at this new place that is now my new home.

I had a fun weekend with new found friends and met a lot of new people by going to the freshman activities with my Appal Core leaders. The highlight of the freshman activities had to be going to watch the hypnotist show. The hypnotist talked to the crowd and tried to get everyone to forget their own names. It worked on about 20 people and then he selected 10 to sit on the stage and perform funny skits. I thoroughly enjoyed watching all of the skits and was envious of the people who were hypnotized.

Then the first week of classes started on the 16th. I was nervous because I was expecting to be swamped with material and have no free time. I am here to tell you that this is not the case. I use a daily planner to keep myself organized and I also use it to make sure I have time to go to the gym to play soccer and basketball. Now that the second week of classes have started the workload has increased a little, but I still have free time to socialize and work out. I couldn’t imagine a better place to call my home for the next four years!
